This project aims to keep girls in school to reduce teen marriage and pregnancy rates, which account for 30% of teens between 15-19years. The Uganda Demographic Health Survey shows that for each maternal death, six other mothers go with disabilities, putting a big percentage of teenagers at risk when they get pregnant.
ARH's grassroot approach targets 5th -7th grade girls and provides them with solar lights to enable them to read and compete for higher education. The organization also supplies sanitary towels and information on how to make them in order to help them handle their menstruation while in school. Above all, ARH teaches these young girls about sexual and reproductive health, and about safe ways to identify, avoid, and report sexual predators.
