Amani Global Works, Inc (AGW), a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization promoting health and community development on Idjwi Island in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Its Founder and Executive Director is Jacques Sebisaho, MD, MPA, who was raised and educated in the DRC and is now a citizen of the United States. He and his wife, Mimy Mudekereza, founded the outpatient clinic in Katonda village on Idjwi in 2005. AGW was incorporated in 2011 and our board of directors works with Dr. Sebisaho to raise funds and provide oversight of the health care and community development projects in Idjwi. Karen Mehiel is Board President and David Evans is Board Vice-President.
In Idjwi, the Katonda community has an advisory board that provides guidance and community input into all aspects of the program. The community is actively engaged in the hospital and our community garden projects, providing much volunteer effort. Almost all of the hospital staff are from the Idjwi community.
