Our goal
To decrease infections and improve health by providing basic sanitation & sewage.
The Challenge

Many families in Peru suffer due to inadequate sanitation and improper human waste disposal.

In Peru, 18% of urban populations lack access to adequate sanitation and sewage disposal systems. As a direct result, many infants and children suffer from diarrheal disease, worm infections, trachoma, and enteric fevers (Esrey 1991, Kumar 2012). Additionally, the lack of access to sanitation & sewage is related to many negative human developmental outcomes, such as lack of security, decreased school attendance, and lowered human dignity particularly for women and girls (Amnesty Intl).

Our Solution

Sanitation intervention will improve health outcomes for poor families.

Hands on Peru will install new sanitation facilities for 7-10 poor families in July 2019, coupled with water & hygiene promotion. We are working alongside engineering students and local engineers from the village, and training young men in the community. The project started in January 2019, with an analysis of every family's bathroom. We identified families with extremely poor sanitation, and are committed to using local knowledge & resources to improve it, in order to improve health outcomes.

Your Impact

Donate $10 to save a child's life & dignity.

Your donation will be used to connect these families to sanitation and sewage systems. Time & time again, sanitation has shown to have the largest impact on health, and studies have consistently shown that improved sanitation & sewage facilities significantly reduce the morbidity of diarrhea and the severity of worm infection by 36% and child mortality by 22% (Esrey 1991). Improved sanitation & human waste disposal is among the most essential & impactful public health interventions.

$4,500 Minimum Funding Goal
  • 75%-Septic sys. material & install

  • 11%-Coordinator & transportation

  • 11%-Government fees & Permits

  • 3%-Stripe fees

$3,000 Campaign Booster Funding

This displays the maximum incremental additional funding the campaign could receive (Maximum Funding Amount (MFA) less Minimum Funding Goal)). For example, if the MFA is $100,000 and the MFG $10,000, it would show the difference of $90,000 here.

  • 97%-Septic sys. material & install

  • 3%-Stripe fees
