Originally an industrial engineer from Peru and from Purdue University, Derek has over 23 years of strategy, consulting, and business analytics experience across different industries, spanning the US, EU, and Latin America. For the last 10 years, Derek has worked in the area of infectious diseases, collaborating on key product launches in HIV/AIDS, HCV, and tuberculosis. His career interest is in improving access to healthcare around the world by empowering the “crowd.”

Co-founder and Operations Leader of CARINGCROWD®. John is a native of Boston and Germany and studied finance at Wharton and strategy at Yale. John brings to bear more than 25 years of entrepreneurial, non-profit and global healthcare industry experience. John is passionate about innovation and access to healthcare for everyone in the world.

Sara Gorman, Ph.D., MPH

Sara Gorman

Public Health Lead of CARINGCROWD®. Sara, our New Yorker, holds advanced degrees from Harvard and Columbia. She is a recognized expert in public health, with many publications on global health in venues such as PLoS Medicine, AIDS Care, and The Lancet. Sara’s latest project is a book on the psychology of health decision-making to be released by Oxford University Press in 2016. She has a particular interest in the stories that inspire public health and make us reflect on how we think about health. Sara acts as designated public health expert for CARINGCROWD®, providing guidance on how to integrate the site into the current global health world and producing and curating public health content for the site.

Steve Ruhmel

Steve Ruhmel

Technology Lead of CARINGCROWD®. A Penn State alumnus, Steve has worked on public health technology projects in Uganda and Peru. Steve is an expert in mobile and web technologies and has launched multiple major information technology projects for Johnson & Johnson. Steve’s career mission is to dramatically improve health care for underserved populations around the globe, using technology as an enabler.
