Our goal
We will deploy at least 30 portable units for the screening of Breast Cancer in India.
The Challenge

There are no population-based breast cancer screening programs in India.

This challenge leaves a massive need for investment in breast cancer prevention. India has 1,000 mammography equipment units for a population of 498 million women. In contrast, the US has 65,000+ mammography equipment units for 166 million women. Breast cancer cannot be diagnosed easily in India because of a lack of education about how to perform self-exams. Stigma additionally prevents women from accessing screening.

Our Solution

We will deploy at least 30 portable breast cancer screening units in Northern India.

Using the new Hum-Nari app, women around India will have the knowledge to perform self-breast exams. HERHealthEQ will deploy at least 30 portable units that can change location depending on need. This will begin in the suburbs of Delhi and then expand in Northern India and other areas per the Jhpiego network of community health workers and operational partners. Thermal imaging and clinical breast exams will be performed in local and regional clinics utilizing our partners infrastructure.

Your Impact

By donating $15, one woman can be screened for breast cancer

Each unit will be able to screen over 2,000 women per year, so the impact is over 100,000 women will benefit in less than 2 years. Our program would train and equip local providers for breast cancer screening at reduced cost, creating a complete care network that can be scaled across India. This will ensure that more women have a chance of early breast cancer detection and successful treatment outcomes through increasing awareness and access to affordable professional breast cancer screening.

$3,000 Minimum Funding Goal
  • 75%-40% of equipment for 1 site

  • 13%-1 month salary for a nurse

  • 9%-Screening for 25 women

  • 3%-1 month PPE for a nurse

$19,000 Campaign Booster Funding

This displays the maximum incremental additional funding the campaign could receive (Maximum Funding Amount (MFA) less Minimum Funding Goal)). For example, if the MFA is $100,000 and the MFG $10,000, it would show the difference of $90,000 here.

  • 85%-Purchase 2 screening equipment

  • 11%-Support 2 sites for 1 month
