let's work together to

Expand our telemedicine in Cameroon’s COVID-19 crisis.

Our goal
To bring telemedicine to people staying away from our micro-clinics in the COVID-19 crisis.
The Challenge

With COVID-19, our work on the front lines of maternal and child health is more crucial than ever.

“We saw with the Ebola outbreak in West Africa that we lost more people to malaria than we lost to Ebola. Let us not repeat that with COVID-19,” Dr. Matshidiso Moeti, the Regional Director for Africa at the World Health Organization, said recently. We know in Cameroon that malaria disproportionately affects children.

Many people in Cameroon are more afraid of police enforcement of the COVID-19 lockdown rules than the virus itself. They aren’t getting checkups or visiting a doctor when they’re sick. The revenue at Unite for Health’s micro-clinics in Bonamoussadi, Bemenda and Eloumden has evaporated. Women are skipping prenatal visits and children with malaria or typhoid aren’t getting treated. In addition, with babies not getting vaccinated, this is a dangerous public health emergency.

Our Solution

In a pandemic, telemedicine is the best way to maintain public health.

Fortunately, most households in Cameroon have a mobile phone these days. Unite for Health already uses telemedicine to provide healthcare to people in far flung communities. Now we must vastly expand our remote outreach capabilities to diagnose and treat people both near and far.

Let’s not let the COVID-19 emergency separate pregnant women, mothers and children from our urgent, life-saving medical care or disease prevention programs. Both are absolutely critical to the public health of thousands of Cameroonians.

Your Impact

Any size donation will help us keep families in our underserved communities healthy.

Your donation to Unite for Health will dramatically expand our existing telemedicine outreach program. For instance, $90 covers monthly internet for FaceTiming patients, per micro-clinic. $40 per day pays for one nurse to be on call. $25 per day buys airtime (on MTN, Orange or NEXTELL) to enable us to call patients back when they don’t have enough mobile airtime themselves. This frequently occurs.

$3,000 Minimum Funding Goal
  • 80%-2 nurses for 30 days

  • 10%-12 days of mobile airtime fee

  • 4%-4% Stripe processing fee

  • 3%-Community engagement

  • 3%-1 month Internet fee

$2,000 Campaign Booster Funding

This displays the maximum incremental additional funding the campaign could receive (Maximum Funding Amount (MFA) less Minimum Funding Goal)). For example, if the MFA is $100,000 and the MFG $10,000, it would show the difference of $90,000 here.

  • 60%-2 nurses for 15 days

  • 19%-15 days of mobile airtime fee

  • 9%-2 months Internet fee

  • 8%-Community engagement

  • 4%-4% Stripe processing fee
