Our goal
We are diverting more than 50,000 pounds of fresh produce from the landfill to people in need
The Challenge

Half a million Utahns face hunger every day.

1 in 7 adults is in danger of missing a meal every day. 3 out of 5 Utah teachers say they have kids who come to school hungry. Using the fresh, zero-mile produce we rescue and share from urban backyards, we're able to provide two of the most critical food sources --fruits and vegetables -- necessary to encourage healthy eating habits. Produce that is grown and eaten in the same community maintains its maximum health value.

Our Solution

Backyard GardenShare collects & redistributes fresh produce from our backyards to families in need.

Backyard GardenShare helps local neighborhoods rescue and share their surplus homegrown vegetables and fruit with local families, refugees and immigrants who have little or no access to fresh produce. Using neighborhood volunteers that act as collection sites, and community organizations as distributors, we can divert thousands of pounds of quality produce from the landfill, where they contribute methane to our environment, and directly into the mouths of hungry people.

Your Impact

By donating just $20, you can help us distribute five pounds of farmer's market quality produce

Five pounds of high-quality, fresh produce can be diverted from the landfill and into the mouths of those in need. The produce that comes from backyard gardens is rich in valuable nutrients, and could significantly reduce health challenges which stem from poor nutrition. We help distribute fresh produce from garden to plate within 24 hours.
