Most Americans today lack the coping skills to face the stress of COVID-19.
COVID-19 has had a widespread negative effect on our mental and emotional health in America.The Center for Disease Control has found that in 2020, levels of depression and anxiety have increased by 3 to 4 times that of the previous year. Elevated levels of alcohol and substance use, interpersonal violence, and even suicide have emerged since the pandemic. There is an urgent need to address these mental health consequences.
INSPIRE's stress reduction classes teach skills to cope with the emotional effects of COVID-19.
INSPIRE is leading the way in our community. We have expanded our stress reduction programs for families in response to a heightened local need. INSPIRE’s popular emotional wellness classes are now offered (on Zoom) so they can reach even more people. At this extraordinarily challenging time of isolation and uncertainty, we are working to enhance parent-child connections and also to reach our senior citizens in need of emotional support.
We are all experiencing stress to some degree at this challenging time. Research shows that direct and honest discussions benefit all family members and create a setting that will foster healthy emotional development. In times of uncertainty and upheaval, clear and consistent messages build resiliency, teach coping skills and reduce stress in families.
Expressive writing is easy and will be an important addition to everyone's at-home COVID-19 coping plan. By writing about your thoughts and feelings for as few as 10 minutes you may change your emotional state, improve your thought process and even sleep better. Based on University of Texas Prof. James Pennebaker's 30 years of nationally recognized research which has connected the process of writing our feelings down on paper to better health.
$100 will fund the cost of each participant in need of support and guidance during COVID-19.
Our overall focus is to help everyone create a COVID-19 coping plan: a plan to calm, relax & heal. All of our programs are at no cost to the participants and made possible by the generosity of our donors. Our parenting classes, meditations and expressive writing classes have all been well received over the past 5 years and are needed now more than ever. 100% of your donation will go to creating effective coping plans that positively influence our participants' mental and emotional wellbeing.
