Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico
Hurricane Maria has wreaked cataclysmic damage upon Puerto Rico. When we think about disaster recovery, we tend to think about hunger, homelessness, and clean water. Diapers are an overlooked, yet crucial, basic need not supplied by most federal disaster relief programs or any federal poverty alleviation programs.
With diapers being an overlooked basic need, many caregivers are forced to choose between food & diapers. With a federal poverty rate of 44%, now amplified by Hurricane Maria, those individuals who rely on diapers are struggling to have their basic diapering needs met. All persons deserve to be clean, dry, and healthy.
Jake's Diapers partners with local community partners to solve diaper need. G.O.D. and A.M.A.R are non-denominational, interdisciplinary, Puerto Rican non-profit organizations. They are comprised mainly of health professionals like physicians, nurses and committed volunteers driven by the wish to serve humankind. Working predominantly in the hardest hit and least accessible communities, G.O.D. & A.M.A.R strive to deliver health and humanitarian aid to those in dire need.
Provision of diapers will increase dignity, sanitation and hygiene
Just 12 cloth diapers can diaper a baby from birth through potty training, and can also provide a complete diaper supply to individuals with special needs, including elders. This means a reliable diaper supply, and no more going without diapers.
Funds raised will support the collaborative work of G.O.D. (Guerreros Obedientes a Dios), A.M.A.R. (Alianza de Medicos al Rescate), and Jake's Diapers in struggling Puerto Rican communities.
By donating as little as $10, you will help children survive and thrive.
As these children and families have their diapering needs solved, they are able to focus on other basic needs as part of recovery and rebuilding. All these steps combined help set these children and their families up for long term success.
