Infant and maternal mortality are major public health problems in India
India has a higher maternal and child mortality compared to US and UK. The causes of infant deaths are many (eg low birth weight, malnutrition, maternal anaemia etc) and require hospitalization-based interventions to prevent them
About 70% of these deaths can be prevented if adequate, timely and suitable measures are taken. Limited resources prevent appropriate measures to be taken at a large scale to prevent these avoidable deaths.
