Dr. Paula Dhanda is an expert in global women’s health. She is the founder and medical director of Worldwide Healing Hands. In 1990, she came to Lake County to help establish a perinatal program. She has delivered thousands of babies in Lake County and is renowned for revolutionizing women's healthcare. She is a dedicated physician to patients in her local community as well as to those around the world, through her non-profit organization, Worldwide Healing Hands.
She began her international initiative in 2009 when she was invited by a fellow surgeon to participate in a medical mission in Chad, Africa. During this heartbreaking mission, she witnessed the dire need for women’s health care. Since then she has led medical teams on multiple missions to Haiti in the aftermath of the 2010 earthquake. In 2012 and 2013 Worldwide Healing Hands embarked on a mission to Nepal where they gave care to 2500 women, trained 2 surgeons and 28 midwives in life saving procedures. Worldwide Healing Hands has been working in Uganda since 2014, helping to establish an OB/GYN residency program and training numerous physicians, midwives, nurses and other staff.
She has won many awards recognizing her work as a compassionate leader. His Holiness the Dalai Lama presented Dr. Dhanda with the Unsung Heroes of Compassion accolade at a celebration held on February 23, 2014.
