Not having a safe and reliable mode of transportation hurts our ability to support our residents
Homelessness is local. U.S. Department of Education during the 2017-2018 school year reported that an estimated 13,234 public school students experienced homelessness over the course of the year across the state of New Jersey (United States Interagency Council on Homelessness) LGBTQ youth are 120% more likely to experience homelessness (Truecolorsunited.org)
Without a reliable mode of transportation to doctor's appointments, school, and more, health quality among other factors contributing to a better quality of life for this already vulnerable population will decrease. The state government funds 90% of our operating costs and we fundraise the remaining needed funds. Losing the use of the 16-person van, which no longer is in working condition, limits our ability to support our clients and residents.
We want to buy a used 16-passenger van to provide reliable and secure transportation.
For over 50 years, we have been helping homeless and at-risk kids with housing, food, and support services including in-home accredited teaching, programs for financial health, personal health, interviewing, and job skills training. Having a van allows us to bring our residents to medical appointments, school, jobs, social service appointments, and more. Help us help these kids, who don't deserve to be homeless, experience more of a normal life and thrive regardless of their circumstances.
By donating $10, you can help give 5,000 young people a new life!
Being able to buy this used van with funds raised through generous donors such as yourself allows us to bring Ray to his job, Elizabeth to see a local college for a college tour, or bring a bunch of residents to school. This not only gives these young people mobility, it gives them an opportunity to reach their full potential. Through your help, this could be made possible. Thank you!
