Over 9,500 Ugandan children are sexually abused or trafficked annually.
These reported cases are just a tip of the iceberg: majority of cases of child defilement or sex trafficking are not reported due to fear or shame. Less than 400 of these cases are successfully prosecuted, leading to despair among victims and their families. This also reduces their willingness to report such crimes. The majority of child defilement cases are perpetuated by a close family member, which further complicates both the reporting and children’s ability to get the assistance they need.
To create a “one stop” center that provides timely comprehensive services.
In addition to acute medical and psychological services, rehabilitation is a critical aspect of preventing the consequences of child sexual abuse and reducing survivors' vulnerability to re-victimization through life skills training. We believe that the economic empowerment of young survivors and other vulnerable children is an important aspect of this recovery process as it provides decent employment and addresses gender inequities that contribute to their poor health and re-victimization.
Rehabilitation services will consist of wellness and life skills training including training on income generating activities such as computer training, cultural arts (e.g. bearding, weaving), soap and candle making, culinary classes, tailoring, carpentry. The rehabilitation services will attached to a mixed farm for animal and crop husbandry to support activities such as gardening and bee farming. We envision that this will also provide income to sustain the services of the trauma center.
By donating $20, you can empower a child survivor of sexual violence.
Your donation will help us purchase equipment and supplies to train young girls in various income generating activities such as computer training, cultural arts (e.g. bearding, weaving), soap and candle making, culinary classes, tailoring, carpentry. We plan to create a mixed farm for animal and crop husbandry with activities such as gardening, bee and goat farming.
