COVID-19 is spreading Across Tamil Nadu, Leaving Hospitals in Need of Supplies
As the COVID pandemic expands across India, there is a shortage of protective gear and other medical supplies to help doctors and other healthcare providers. Public Hospitals in Tamil Nadu's Sivagangai District have COVID units that are lacking these supplies. Because healthcare system in India are not like those in the United States, there is significant concern about the ability for healthcare workers to handle and treat COVID-19 patients safely.
In Tamil Nadu, over 40,000 cases of COVID and approximately 330 deaths have been reported. These statistics make Tamil Nadu the 2nd most affected state in all of India. In the midst of this global pandemic, the need for N95s, PPE and other protective gear will only increase. Ekam Shreveport is addressing the needs of public hospitals in the Sivagangai District in Tamil Nadu by raising funds to supply N95 masks.
Raising Funds to Supply Hospitals N-95 Masks for Healthcare Workers
Through doing a virtual 5K in the community and across other states, Ekam Shreveport will raise funds that will go towards supplying hospitals in the Sivagangai District with N95 masks. This will not only involve the local community, but it will aid in protecting healthcare workers. Participants in the 5k will be asked to walk or run 3.1 miles. An entry fee will be required for each participant and will be put towards funding protective equipment for the Sivagangai District Hospitals.
At this time, due to concern for contracting the infection themselves, doctors and nurses are hesitant to treat these patients. Ekam has staff in each district that is ensuring that each COVID patient, especially pregnant women and children, are not denied treatment. Ekam has received requests to provide PPE to several hospitals in the area and has provided N95 masks, PPE packets and other necessary supplies to treat patients at this crucial time.
N95 Masks Will Allow Healthcare Workers to Have Protection From COVID-19
The funds raised from entry fees for the virtual 5k will allow these public hospitals to supply their healthcare workers with masks that could save their lives during this pandemic. Since it is a virtual event, friends and family can be recruited from the community, across the country, and around the world to raise funds.
98%-Funds for N95 Masks and PPE
This displays the maximum incremental additional funding the campaign could receive (Maximum Funding Amount (MFA) less Minimum Funding Goal)). For example, if the MFA is $100,000 and the MFG $10,000, it would show the difference of $90,000 here.
