In eight years, the homelessness in Brazil increased by 140%, impacting over 200,000 Brazilians.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this crisis has intensifed and has even created new hardships for those already struggling. For example, the loss of jobs increases the number of people who, without any alternative, are left out on the streets, and become more exposed to the virus.
In 2018, in Brazil, there were 25.3% from the population with incomes less than US $ 5.50 PPC (Purchasing Power Parity) a day, which is approximately US $165 monthly.
In 8 years, this population has grown, many of whom are also chemical dependents. In Rio de Janeiro alone, there is an estimated 15,000 homeless people who are going without any shelter or help.
In the last four months, in which Brazil has been struggling with the COVID-19 pandemic, nearly 3 million people lost their jobs. The unemployment percentage now stands at 13.7%, which corresponds to 12.9 million people. The data came from the COVID-19 National Household Sample Survey (Pnad) and IBGE.
This challenge is projected to keep growing, affecting more people every day, so it is critical to create an intervention now before it is too late.
Centers and Clinics to homeless people, looking for their transformation and better opportunities
Building community centers and clinics for those looking for their transformation and better opportunities.
By building community centers and clinics, we are working to provide the following in accordance with proper COVID-19 protocols: food, hygiene, medical assistance, psychological services, dentistry, social rentals, resources for recovery clinics, occupational training and labor market opportunities, work spaces, and more.
The construction and implementation will begin in Rio de Janeiro and will also be equipped with a shuttle for free transportation services to receive guests. The proposal is to expand this project across different regions of the country, starting in Rio de Janeiro/RJ and later expanding to Uberlândia/MG and Sao Paulo/SP.
Give not only hope but real opportunities for a better future and life conditions to homeless.
Your donation will help transform 500 people's lives for the better.
By donating to this cause, together we will be able to support more than 500 people who would otherwise be susceptible to great danger. These centers will be life changing for these people and for the Brazilian community at large during a time of great need.
This displays the maximum incremental additional funding the campaign could receive (Maximum Funding Amount (MFA) less Minimum Funding Goal)). For example, if the MFA is $100,000 and the MFG $10,000, it would show the difference of $90,000 here.
